Emergency Department Technician (EDT) — Emergency Department (ED) — Mt. Pleasant Hospital — PRN
About The Position
The ED Tech provides direct patient care under the guidance of a RN or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health. This role involves providing basic patient care and tasks such as care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assisting with mobility, performing lab draws, ECGs, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN. The technician will also complete patient rounding, provide 1:1 patient safety companion services as needed, act as a liaison between patient and nurse, provide high-level customer service, and ensure accurate and timely documentation. Participation in handoff reports, performing delegated tasks after competency validation, collecting data, and completing patient screenings are also key responsibilities. The role promotes quality and safety by seeking continuous improvement in processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery. It requires the ability to work independently, problem-solve, and resolve conflict under considerable stress, while maintaining knowledge of policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
- Current certification for Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Medical Assisting (preferred)
- Previous experience working as a Patient Care Tech, within a nursing support role or previous healthcare experience or second year nursing student from a Registered Nurse (RN) program (preferred)

Responsibilities
- Provides basic patient care and tasks to include, but not limited to, care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assists with mobility, performs lab draws, ECG’s, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN.

- Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and concerns.
- Provides high level customer service to all patients, patient's families, community providers, visitors, and employees.
- Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation as applicable to patient care.
- Participates in handoff report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.
