The ED Tech provides direct patient care under the guidance of a RN or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health. This role involves providing basic patient care and tasks such as care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assisting with mobility, performing lab draws, ECGs, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN. The technician will also complete patient rounding, provide 1:1 patient safety companion services as needed, and act as a liaison between the patient and nurse to report changes and concerns. High-level customer service is expected for all patients, families, community providers, visitors, and employees. Accurate and timely documentation is required as applicable to patient care. Participation in handoff report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs is also a key responsibility. The technician will perform delegated tasks once competency has been validated, collect data within scope, and complete patient screenings as applicable. Promoting quality and safety by seeking to continually improve processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery is essential. The role requires the ability to work independently, problem-solve, and resolve conflict while working under considerable stress, and maintaining knowledge of policies and procedures.
