Provides direct patient care and operational support in a critical access hospital emergency department as a member of the care team. The position is intended for an individual with current Texas paramedic credentials. The employee performs assigned technician duties and additional approved skills only after MCHD orientation, documented competency, and authorization under applicable law, medical staff orders, and hospital policy. The RN retains responsibility for nursing assessment, planning, evaluation, and nursing supervision; the treating provider directs medical diagnosis and treatment. The technician receives assignments from the RN and communicates observations promptly, escalating urgent changes to the RN and treating provider. Duties include obtaining and recording observations, assisting with patient care and procedures, supporting emergency response, documenting care, and maintaining rooms and equipment. Enhanced paramedic skills may be performed only when specifically approved under the current MCHD role-specific skills matrix and applicable training, authorization, orders or protocols, competency, and supervision requirements. The role does not confer independent hospital practice authority or an RN, LVN, or provider license. The technician does not independently perform nursing assessments, create or revise nursing care plans, triage or assign acuity, make disposition decisions, prescribe, or provide unsupervised patient education or discharge instructions. Certain tasks—including medication administration, IV medication, invasive procedures, and advanced airway interventions—require separate written authorization and an approved order or protocol, competency, and supervision. The employee must decline and escalate tasks outside the approved role. The work involves a fast-paced emergency department environment, including exposure to critical illness, trauma, and distressed individuals. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, patient handling, pushing and pulling equipment, bending, reaching, and fine motor activity. Reasonable accommodation may be used to perform essential functions.
