The Emergency Department Technician provides direct and indirect patient care in support of nursing and provider staff in the Emergency Department. Responsibilities include monitoring cardiac rhythms, collecting specimens, assisting with procedures, and performing clerical duties as needed. Maintains a safe, clean, and organized care environment while adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • EMT - Emergency Medical Tech state certified Upon Hire (Required)
  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Patient Care Tech Upon Hire (Required)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)-AAMA state registered Upon Hire (Required)
  • Other: Equivalent clinical training with demonstrated care competencies Upon Hire (Required)
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire (Required)
  • EKG Competency required within timeframe required by facility policy
  • O2 Assessment may be required within timeframe required by facility policy

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role.
  • Prior Experience in a hospital, emergency care setting, or similar clinical environment
  • Prior Experience with patient care, vital signs monitoring, and specimen collection

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care including vital signs monitoring, ambulation, and basic hygiene care under the supervision of the RN or provider.
  • Monitors cardiac rhythms and reports any abnormalities to the nursing staff.
  • Assists with Point of Care Testing (Accu-Checks), phlebotomy, and specimen collection as directed.
  • Performs catheter insertion and removal as directed by RN (Paramedic Only).
  • Assists with patient transport and ensures patient safety during transport.
  • Completes accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with downtime procedures and required documentation.
  • Responds to patient call systems in a timely manner and assists with patient needs.
  • Supports unit operations by maintaining adequate stock of supplies and assisting with inventory control.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA regulations.
