About The Position

The Emergency Department Technician II (ED Tech II) plays a crucial role in patient care within the Emergency Room at Community Hospital. This PRN/Pool position involves a variety of direct patient care tasks, supporting nurses and physicians in providing timely and effective treatment. The role requires proficiency in essential medical procedures, patient monitoring, and maintaining a safe and organized environment. The ED Tech II also provides clerical support and assists with patient flow and communication within the department.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • One (1) Year of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) experience required.
  • Certified EMT Basic required. Intermediate or Paramedic
  • IV certification required.
  • Registered with the Colorado Registry or National EMT Registry required.
  • Current Basic Life Support required within ten (10) days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intravenous access and lab draws, including US guided IV insertion or EJ IV insertion.
  • Perform wound care, irrigation, and apply dressings.
  • Provide first aid as required, including splinting, c-spine, and spinal restriction.
  • Monitor the patient’s airway and vital signs, as necessary.
  • Conduct electrocardiogram (EKG) testing, as necessary.
  • Independently transports stable patients to admitting units, laboratories, radiology, etc.; Aids in transporting unstable patients as needed.
  • Monitor and document vital signs including oxygen (O2) statistics, pain level, and temperature and communicate such with nurses, and/or physician.
  • Proficient in triage using the ESI triage system. Communicates with the charge nurse regarding any trauma or critical patients. Adheres to triage policy guidelines.
  • Maintain proper equipment functionality and ensure availability of necessary supplies.
  • Manage ongoing removal of trash and linens.
  • Assist with linen stocking and placing blankets in warmer.
  • Support nurses in preparing patients by assisting with gowning, applying monitors if necessary, ensuring bed rails are raised, and ensuring call lights are accessible.
  • Initiates isolation precautions as appropriate for the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Provide basic clerical support when needed, and act as a runner for lab work.
  • Support nursing staff during rounds in the waiting room, conducting vital sign assessments and addressing inquiries about safety, comfort, pain management, and other patient needs. Relay gathered information to the Triage Nurse.
