Caregivers in Lutheran Hospital’s Emergency Department provide care to all patient populations, ranging from infants to geriatrics, and ensure that each patient’s visit is as comfortable and stress-free as possible. As a Paramedic in the ED, you will provide emergency treatment, including advanced life support, to patients experiencing medical emergencies. In this role, you will assess patients’ urgent medical needs and help stabilize their conditions. Paramedics are among the most highly trained emergency medical responders, playing a critical role in patient care and emergency response. Your tireless efforts help improve outcomes and make a lasting difference in the lives of patients, their families and your fellow caregivers.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic training program
  • Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within one year of start date in the Emergency Department
  • Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic training program

Nice To Haves

  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Certification
  • One year of experience as an EMT-P

Responsibilities

  • Provide duties that assist in providing patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Obtain and record vital signs.
  • Perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy and oral, nasal and ET suctioning.
  • Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy and saline locks.
  • Notify the RN and/or physician of rhythm changes.
  • Apply orthopaedic appliances and simple splints.
  • Size crutches and teach crutch walking.
  • Assist with equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, LP, etc.
  • Assist with restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices.
  • Transport patients and specimens.
  • Assist with sterile procedures and cleaning and maintaining supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy.
  • Perform fluid/drug administration.
