About The Position

The Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing patient and family-centered care, recognizing the patient or designee as the source of control and full partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient’s preferences, values, and needs. The role involves delivering developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, evidence-based care, and actively anticipating changes in patient outcomes and unit needs. The nurse will communicate and advocate patient values, preferences, and expressed needs to the interdisciplinary team, initiating and anticipating individualized care and education for patients and families across the continuum using an interdisciplinary approach. This position requires functioning effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making to achieve quality patient care. The nurse will integrate best current evidence with clinical expertise and patient/family preferences and values for the delivery of optimal health care, identifying key concepts of research and evidence-based practice and participating in structuring the work environment to facilitate the integration of new evidence into standards of practice. Additionally, the role involves using data to monitor the outcomes of care processes and employing improvement methods to continuously improve the quality and safety of healthcare systems, utilizing outcome data at the patient level to make care decisions and participating in quality improvement activities. Minimizing risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance is crucial, as is using information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making, including navigating and documenting in the EMR. As agents of change, nurses are involved in committees, professional development, and supporting organizational goals, while also acting as active participants in the community. They support organizational goals, advance the nursing profession, and enhance professional development by extending their influence to professional and community groups, working within their scope of practice and delegating according to the Nurse Practice Act, and participating in shared governance activities. Opportunities for professional development, such as continuing education, certification, community service, and precepting, are encouraged.

Requirements

  • RN License
  • Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • BLS from American Red Cross or American Heart Association with at least 3 months left before expiration is required upon hire
  • 2 years of nursing experience required for eligibility for bonus

Responsibilities

  • Utilize outcome data at the patient level to make care decisions.
  • Participate in the quality improvement activities, which may include Root Cause Analyses, Apparent Cause Analyses, Capacity Operation Safety Huddles, Nursing Bed Huddles, & Interdisciplinary Meetings and use quality measures to understand individual and unit performance.
  • Minimize risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance.
  • Utilize and discuss policy, procedures, and guidelines to support practice.
  • Communicate observations or concerns related to unsafe situations that pose a risk to patients, families or the health care team.
  • Use information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making.
  • Recognize and apply information and technology of patient and unit outcomes to facilitate communication, clinical decision-making, error prevention, and care coordination.
  • Navigate and document in the EMR to support patient care.
  • Act as agents of change within the organization, involved in committees, professional development, and support organizational goals, as well as, active participants in the community.
  • Support organizational goals, advance the nursing profession, and enhance professional development by extending their influence to professional and community groups.
  • Work within scope of practice and delegate according to Nurse Practice Act.
  • Participate in shared governance activities.
  • Seek opportunities to participate in professional development activities such as: continuing education activities, a nursing or professional health organization certification in clinical specialty community service and/or grassroots advocacy and/or Participate in education by precepting and the education of orientees, peers, and students and acting as a clinical resource.
