About The Position

Emory Healthcare is seeking an Emergency Department Charge Nurse to plan, coordinate, and direct the daily operations of a specific shift on a clinical unit. This role involves supervising staff, facilitating communication with physicians and administrators to ensure optimal patient and family-centered care. The Charge Nurse is a change agent, leading efforts to strengthen organizational systems and is adept at problem-solving, conflict negotiation, and collaboration. They demonstrate insight, judgment, and clinically sound risk-taking, serving as a role model for expert communication and clinical skills. This position requires foresight regarding the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes and is recognized as an expert clinician and leader within their specialty. Responsibilities include completing employee conferences, risk management and unit management reports, identifying the need for operational form revisions, and ensuring the unit has the necessary resources for optimal patient outcomes. The Charge Nurse also models time management, ensures compliance with policies and procedures, and stays informed of innovative clinical trends through benchmarking and evidence-based practice. They function as a charge nurse, model delegation skills, and are viewed as a formal leader.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
1 year of recent post-graduation nursing experience.
A valid, unencumbered Registered Nursing License approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
BLS certification
If completing virtual care activities that may include multi-state practice, an active compact/multistate license (eNLC) is required within 60 days of hire. Employees in role prior to 11/09/2025 will have until their next renewal date to achieve compact status.

Mentors other Registered Nurses to the role and functions of Charge Nurse.
Leads and coordinates team behavior between staff members and actively fosters the development of leadership skills in others.
Provides direction and guidance to less experienced staff concerning policies, scheduling, assignments, organizational skills and daily operations.
Completes performance reviews with Nurse Manager input as appropriate.
Incorporates Synergy model for care in nurse/patient assignments.

Coordinates unit staffing to meet the needs of the department.

Actively participates in preparation of regulatory agency reviews.
