Responsibilities include evaluating patients for hospital admission, completing initial InterQual assessments, and assisting with outpatient follow-up plans for discharged patients. The ED Case Manager is also responsible for assessing behavioral health patients, collaborating with physicians to determine safety risk, correct level of care, and voluntary/involuntary status. This role involves communicating with family members and other pertinent individuals to gather necessary information for optimal patient outcomes, with a specific understanding of ED care and patient flow as it relates to behavioral health patients.
