About The Position

VEG is hiring an Emergency Credentialed Veterinary Technician to provide emergency veterinary care at its Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania practice. The role is part of a team caring for patients with cases ranging from minor to complex emergencies, working alongside doctors to provide high-quality, emotionally intelligent care. The technician participates in triage, treatments, diagnostics, anesthesia, monitoring, and critical care nursing, while supporting pet parents through stressful situations. Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Credentialed as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, or LVMT) in the state where the VEG practice is located.
At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary technician role.
Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software and electronic medical records.
Strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure and support teammates.
Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.
Ability to stand for prolonged periods, kneel, and work on the floor.
Ability to lift up to 25 kg independently and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis according to hospital needs.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with people from varied backgrounds and personality types.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s degree or higher in veterinary technology from an AVMA-accredited program.
Experience in emergency or specialty medicine.
Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification in emergency and critical care, internal medicine, or anesthesia/analgesia; this may lead to additional compensation consideration.

Responsibilities

Provide compassionate care to patients and their people, keeping them together and supporting them through tests and treatments.
Deliver nursing care, treatments, and emotional support from triage through discharge.
Administer medications and provide monitoring, including IVs, CRIs, and blood transfusions.
Communicate and collaborate with teammates to shape care plans and keep care flowing.
Perform CPR.
Perform diagnostics and imaging, collect samples, and place tubes.
Provide anesthesia, including for fragile patients.
Use advanced techniques such as central lines, endoscopy, and ultrasounds.
