About The Position

VEG is hiring a per diem Emergency Credentialed Veterinary Technician to provide emergency veterinary care in its Chapel Hill, North Carolina hospital. The technician will work with doctors and the hospital team on cases ranging from minor to complex emergencies, delivering clinical care and compassionate support to pets and their owners. The role includes triage, treatments, diagnostics, anesthesia, patient monitoring, and critical care nursing, while supporting pet parents during stressful situations. VEG describes its hospitals as open-concept and open 24/7, 365 days a year, and emphasizes learning, mentorship, and an emotionally intelligent, customer-focused emergency-care experience. This position requires state veterinary technician credentialing and availability for nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis according to hospital needs.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Credentialed as a veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, or LVMT) in the state where the VEG practice is located.
At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary technician role.
Basic computer skills and comprehension of practice management software and electronic medical record keeping.
Excellent communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure and support colleagues.
Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.
Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, work on the floor, lift up to 25 kg independently, and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis according to hospital needs.
Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with people from varied backgrounds and personality types.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s degree or higher in veterinary technology from an AVMA-accredited program is strongly preferred.
Experience in emergency or specialty medicine is preferred.
VTS in ECC, internal medicine, or anesthesia/analgesia is a plus and may lead to extra compensation consideration.

Responsibilities

Provide patient-centered care and support people and pets through tests, treatments, and other stages of care.
Deliver nursing care, treatments, and emotional support from triage through discharge.
Administer medications and provide monitoring, including IVs, CRIs, and blood transfusions.
Communicate with teammates and help shape care plans and maintain the flow of care.
Perform CPR using RECOVER training and practices.
Perform diagnostics and imaging, collect samples, and place tubes.
Provide anesthesia, including for fragile patients.
Use advanced techniques such as central lines, endoscopy, and ultrasounds.
