About The Position

The Emergency Credentialed Veterinary Technician role is a per diem position within a team focused on emergency veterinary care. Technicians will manage a variety of cases, collaborate with doctors, and provide compassionate care to pet owners during stressful times. The role involves triage, treatments, diagnostics, anesthesia, monitoring, and critical care nursing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Credentialed as a veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) in the state of practice.
  • 1+ years of experience in a veterinary technician role.
  • Basic computer skills and comprehension of practice management software and electronic medical record keeping.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kg independently and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
  • Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with diverse individuals.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or higher in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited program strongly preferred.
  • Experience in emergency or specialty medicine preferred.
  • VTS in ECC, internal medicine or anesthesia/analgesia is a plus and will lead to extra considerations in compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Treat every patient and person with importance, keeping people and pets together through tests and treatments.
  • Provide nursing care, treatments, and emotional support during critical moments, from triage to discharge.
  • Administer medications, monitoring, and treatments such as IVs, CRIs, and blood transfusions.
  • Communicate effectively as a teammate and assist in shaping plans and ensuring care continuity.
  • Perform CPR.
  • Conduct diagnostics, imaging, sample collection, and tube placement.
  • Administer anesthesia, including for fragile patients.
  • Utilize advanced techniques such as central lines, endoscopy, and ultrasounds.
