As a per diem Emergency Credentialed Veterinary Technician, you will be a vital part of a team dedicated to high-stakes emergency veterinary care. You will manage a variety of cases, from minor to severe emergencies, working collaboratively with veterinarians and staff to deliver exceptional, empathetic care. Your responsibilities will include triage, treatments, diagnostics, anesthesia, patient monitoring, and critical care nursing, while also providing comfort to pet owners during stressful situations. This role is ideal for individuals who are eager to utilize their full training, enhance their skills, and make a significant difference in the lives of pets and their owners.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Credentialed as a veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) in the state where the VEG practice is located.
  • 1+ years of experience in a veterinary technician role.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with practice management software and electronic medical records.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, work on the floor, and lift up to 25 kg independently and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
  • Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with diverse individuals.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or higher in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited program strongly preferred.
  • Experience in emergency or specialty medicine preferred.
  • VTS in ECC, internal medicine, or anesthesia/analgesia is a plus and may lead to additional compensation considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Treat every patient and person with importance, ensuring people and pets stay together through tests and treatments.
  • Provide nursing care, treatments, and emotional support during critical moments, from initial triage to patient discharge.
  • Administer medications, perform monitoring, and manage treatments such as IVs, CRIs, and blood transfusions.
  • Communicate effectively as a team member and think critically to help shape care plans and ensure smooth operations.
  • Perform CPR as a trained RECOVER professional.
  • Conduct diagnostic procedures, imaging, sample collection, and tube placement.
  • Administer anesthesia, even to fragile patients.
  • Utilize advanced techniques including central lines, endoscopy, and ultrasounds.
