Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience in emergency communications operations.
  • Certification as a Maine State Police Terminal Operator.
  • Certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher (inherent in this certification is completion of approved CPR training).
  • Any selected candidate must be able to pass a fingerprint-based background check and a polygraph prior to employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to applicants with previous supervisory experience and the following certifications - Certification as a METRO/NCIC Terminal Operator Certification
  • Certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher (inherent in this certification is completion of approved CPR training).
  • Certification as an Emergency Fire Dispatcher
  • Certification as an Emergency Telecommunicator
  • Certification as an NG-911 Certification as an EMD-Q
  • Certification as an EFD-Q
  • Certification as an APCO Supervisor
  • Certification as an APCO Certified Terminal Operator
  • Certification as an DPS Train The Trainer

Responsibilities

  • Supervises operations of various telecommunications equipment (radio, computer, telephone, teletype, fax)
  • Ensures the Regional Communications Center complies with departmental requirements and standards
  • Identifies, corrects, and/or reports equipment failures, avoiding a lapse in communications
  • Audits the Maine Law Enforcement Telecommunication System for appropriate usage, validation, and quality control
  • Trains, mentors, and supervises staff, ensuring proficiency in assigned duties and understanding of work policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Prepares and certifies statewide emergency communications operators and dispatchers meet established standards and best practices
  • Identifies individual training needs through performance management sessions
  • Establishes work schedules and assigns work responsibilities
  • Implements and complies with human resource laws, policies, procedures and practices as they relate to: AA/EEO, recruitment, employment, position classification, performance appraisals, training, discipline, contract administration, security protocols of agency information, security and confidentiality policies, and employee safety
  • Develops and revises curriculum materials
  • Coordinates training sessions
  • Instructs classes at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy
  • Preserves security of personnel, facilities, keys, and vehicles through employee log
  • Manages filing of emergency communications reports and related materials
  • Updates, purges, and records distribution of information, maintaining required records.
  • Provides information regarding Maine Criminal Law, Motor Vehicle Law, permits, or refers caller to appropriate source in order to respond to public inquiry
  • Testifies in court in order to verify log entries and conversations
