About The Position

The company is seeking a contract EMC Test Technician to support its EMC team, which validates component- and module-level EMC/EMI control for automotive electronic systems. This is a hands-on, bench-level individual contributor role with no direct reports. The technician will take ownership of test execution, work onsite and at third-party labs, maintain the test environment, and produce OEM-ready documentation while collaborating closely with design and test engineers. The role includes automotive emissions, immunity, transient pulse, and ESD testing; operating and maintaining EMC instrumentation and test accessories; applying OEM requirements and tracking specification revisions; configuring automated test sequences; preparing test records and reports; and supporting lab calibration, preventive maintenance, and organization.

Requirements

  • 3 to 7 years of bench-level automotive EMC testing experience.
  • Practical knowledge of ISO 11452, ISO 7637, and OEM test specifications.
  • Precision working with high-voltage AC and DC power sources.
  • Confidence working around and testing vehicle hardware.
  • Comfort and adaptability working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift heavy loads unassisted up to 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Run radiated and conducted emissions testing (CISPR 25), radiated immunity, bulk current injection (BCI), and conducted immunity (ISO 11452).
  • Perform transient pulse testing (ISO 7637-2, ISO 16750-2) and ESD testing (ISO 10605, IEC 61000-4-2).
  • Maintain LISNs, probes, clamps, CDNs, and antennas.
  • Apply applicable OEM requirements and related specifications; track specification revisions and flag affected test plans.
  • Operate receivers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, RF amplifiers, transient generators, and ESD simulators.
  • Validate antenna factors and perform system checks, including antenna calibration, chamber correlation, ALSE, and BCI.
  • Use TILE!, Python, and LabVIEW to configure test sequences; verify automated outputs against manual baselines and troubleshoot anomalies.
  • Produce OEM-ready test reports, configuration records, calibration and ambient data, logs, non-conformance records, and retest documentation.
  • Support engineers with root-cause data and plot interpretation.
  • Perform calibration checks and preventive maintenance.
  • Track calibration due dates with external ISO/IEC 17025 providers, keep the lab organized, and log equipment issues.
  • Travel to San Jose and other remote locations, initially up to 25–50% of the time.
