About The Position

Leidos is seeking an Embedded Software Test Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team in a matrixed organization developing solutions for complex problems related to missile defense systems. The role supports testing and validation of embedded systems in complex technical environments and covers the software test lifecycle from planning through post-test analysis and reporting. The engineer collaborates with software developers, systems engineers, hardware engineers, and program stakeholders to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of embedded applications and integrated platforms.

The role involves software testing and automation, Python scripting and debugging, test-framework development, troubleshooting across embedded software, networking, hardware interfaces, and automated test environments, and supporting test and integration activities. It also includes requirements traceability, test documentation, automated testing within CI/CD workflows, and participation in technical reviews and customer demonstrations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• At least 8 years of experience in software testing, integration, and verification of embedded systems, or at least 6 years with a master’s degree.
• Experience testing embedded systems and integrated hardware/software platforms.
• Experience with software automation testing and automated test environments.
• Strong Python scripting and debugging skills.
• Experience developing and maintaining automation frameworks.
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex test data.
• Experience mapping requirements to test scenarios, procedures, and verification activities.
• Experience developing and maintaining Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTMs).
• Experience validating interfaces between software, firmware, and hardware components.
• Experience supporting regression and performance testing.
• Experience with network analysis and troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark.
• Experience using Jira for defect tracking, task management, and SAFe workflow support.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience generating and maintaining software test documentation, including STPs, STDs, and STRs.
• Experience performing unit, integration, regression, performance, and formal testing activities.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across embedded software, networking, hardware integration, and automation systems.
• Experience conducting post-test analysis and documenting results.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and execute automated and manual test procedures for embedded software applications and integrated systems.
• Develop, execute, and debug Python-based automated test scripts to improve test coverage, efficiency, and automation capabilities.
• Design and implement automation frameworks and test harnesses for embedded systems.
• Perform testing in simulated, hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL), and software-in-the-loop (SIL) environments.
• Conduct unit, integration, system, regression, performance, and formal qualification testing of embedded systems.
• Validate interfaces between software, firmware, and hardware components.
• Analyze complex test data, identify trends and root causes, and prepare findings, reports, and recommendations.
• Generate, maintain, and update software test plans (STPs), software test descriptions (STDs), and software test reports (STRs).
• Map system and software requirements to test scenarios, procedures, and verification activities; develop and maintain Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTMs).
• Use network analysis tools such as Wireshark to troubleshoot traffic, protocol behavior, and embedded system communications.
• Support integration of automated testing into CI/CD build and deployment pipelines.
• Use Jira to track defects, manage test activities, document issues, and support SAFe workflows.
• Participate in requirements reviews to assess testability and traceability.
• Support test planning, estimate testing effort, and assist with test scheduling and resource planning.
• Support technical and milestone reviews, customer demonstrations, and presentations, including Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs) and Test Review Boards (TRBs).
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve technical issues and improve product quality.
