About The Position

Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network, aiming to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. This role is on the Amazon Leo for Government (ALG) team, which focuses on developing embedded software for custom satellite and ground applications supporting U.S. and allied government customers. As a Device Software Development Engineer, you will design and develop embedded software for Amazon Leo's satellite and ground systems, working on fault-tolerant, real-time platforms. You will collaborate closely with hardware, systems, and product teams to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performance solutions. This is an opportunity to shape next-generation space-based communication systems with minimal legacy constraints, directly supporting critical government initiatives. The role requires onsite work 5 days a week and is open to candidates in Northridge, CA, Arlington, VA, or Redmond, WA, with relocation benefits available.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to comply with U.S. government-imposed requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize embedded software for Amazon Leo's satellite and ground terminal systems, focusing on fault-tolerant, real-time platforms.
  • Leverage modern application frameworks for Embedded Linux and RTOS platforms to develop scalable, modular, and high-performance software.
  • Implement and integrate software for data processing, device control, and networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP).
  • Debug and resolve complex hardware-software integration issues using tools like logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless hardware-software interaction and system reliability.
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct design reviews, and uphold high software quality standards.
