About The Position

The Locomotive Controls Engineering team is responsible for the design, development, integration, and validation of locomotive communications and control networks that support freight, transit, hybrid, and battery-electric locomotive platforms. In this role, you will collaborate with customers, suppliers, systems engineering, software engineering, cybersecurity teams, manufacturing, validation, and service organizations to develop robust and reliable network architectures that support Wabtec's next-generation transportation technologies. As a Senior Engineer – Locomotive Network Controls, you will serve as a technical leader responsible for the architecture, development, and validation of locomotive communication networks. You will leverage your expertise in network design, controls systems, and cybersecurity to support new product introductions, product enhancements, and field issue resolution. Your work will directly impact product reliability, safety, maintainability, and performance while supporting Wabtec's digital and electrification initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, including at least 3 years of Ethernet network design experience.
  • Experience with Layer 2 and Layer 3 network switch configuration and network architecture development.
  • Knowledge of communications networks, controls systems, software integration, and cybersecurity principles; controls or software development experience is preferred.
  • Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work hands-on in laboratory and locomotive environments supporting design validation, testing, and troubleshooting activities.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop Serial, Ethernet, and ARCNET communication networks for locomotive and transit applications.
  • Lead network design activities for new product introduction (NPI) programs, product upgrades, and customer requisitions.
  • Develop and manage network requirements, design standards, and validation methodologies to ensure robust system performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure proper integration, implementation, and validation of locomotive control systems and network architectures.
  • Support cybersecurity initiatives by incorporating secure network design principles and requirements into product development activities.
  • Investigate and resolve field and laboratory issues through structured troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to engineering teams while communicating program status, risks, and opportunities to stakeholders.
  • Support the development of next-generation locomotive technologies, including battery-electric and transit applications.
