About The Position

As a member of our research hardware engineering team, you'll play a key role in developing advanced embedded systems that power next-generation products and mission-critical solutions. Working with SystemVerilog, FPGA technologies, and modern development tools, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, implement, test, and deploy innovative hardware solutions from concept through production. This role will be worked onsite in Burnsville, MN or Cedar Rapids, IA.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
  • Experience with FPGA development and HDL design using Verilog, VHDL, or SystemVerilog
  • Familiarity with FPGA development tools such as Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus
  • Working knowledge of RTL design, digital logic, and debugging techniques.
  • Basic understanding of microcontrollers, embedded systems, or computer architecture

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the architecture and development of sophisticated embedded electronic systems for aerospace, with an emphasis on processor architectures and custom acceleration engines
  • Lead RTL development, integration, and verification using SystemVerilog for complex digital designs
  • Design and implement custom hardware acceleration engines to meet demanding performance, safety, reliability, and operational constraints
  • Work closely with software/firmware engineers, system architects, and product teams to ensure seamless hardware-software integration and cohesive end-to-end solutions
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, and use debugging tools like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to validate designs and troubleshoot issues at the component level
  • Create and maintain detailed design documentation, and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., DO-254, A(M)C 20-152A)
  • Act as a technical authority during design reviews and mentor other engineers on design best practices
