Embedded Firmware Engineer III

Nevada Heat Treating•Webster, TX

About The Position

Vitesse Systems is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer III to join a multidisciplinary engineering team designing robotic systems and electromechanical hardware for clients across a range of industries, including applications on Earth and in space. The role focuses on developing and troubleshooting hardware and firmware, including hands-on mechanical and electrical assembly as needed to diagnose issues and implement fixes during development. The engineer will develop firmware, drivers, and embedded-device software; bring up and integrate electromechanical systems; and work with electrical engineers and technicians on board bring-up, integration, and testing. The role also involves translating hardware requirements into software requirements, contributing to design documentation, testing and validating firmware, and supporting deployments. Travel may be required to support hardware assembly, testing, and integration. Vitesse Systems provides engineered antenna, thermal-management, and mission-critical solutions for radar, electronic warfare, and C5ISR applications. The company describes its core values as Integrity, Initiative, Impact, and Integration. Work is subject to ITAR and EAR controls, and proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline applicable to robotics.
  • At least 8 years of software engineering experience developing production-grade firmware and embedded software; electromechanical hardware and robotics experience is preferred.
  • Experience testing, validating, and managing firmware deployments for products in the field.
  • Strong C++ and Python programming skills, with good coding, commenting, and documentation practices.
  • Proficiency coding embedded systems using C/C++, VHDL, or Verilog in a Linux environment.
  • Ability to contribute to design documentation for test protocols, reports, and software requirements.
  • Experience with full life-cycle library and application development, Git version control, software testing, and continuous integration.
  • Ability to read circuit diagrams and perform basic debugging.
  • Development experience with robotic systems and theory, including mechatronics, motor control, kinematics, dynamics, sensing, control, or planning.
  • Experience with I/O technologies and embedded systems, including communication protocols such as SPI, EtherCAT, Ethernet, UART, CAN, I2C, and RS-232; actuators; motors; motor controllers; and sensors such as incremental and absolute encoders, analog sensors, and IMUs.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency to comply with ITAR regulations.
  • Motivation to learn needed knowledge to complete the job effectively.
  • Familiarity and proficiency with basic electronics tools such as a soldering iron, crimpers, and oscilloscope.
  • Ability to work well on a team and take full responsibility for individual tasks, including open-ended tasks.
