About The Position

This role is part of Blue Origin’s Engines business unit, which designs, develops, manufactures, and tests engines and propulsion systems. The Embedded Control Electronics Hardware Engineer designs, develops, and validates control board hardware for power conversion and power electronics systems. The work focuses on embedded control electronics, sensing architecture, ADC measurement accuracy, and interfaces between digital control platforms and power electronics hardware. The engineer works with sensors, ADCs, digital controllers, gate drivers, and power stages, and tests and debugs hardware in the lab.

Requirements

  • Experience designing embedded control board hardware for power electronics or power conversion systems.
  • Strong understanding of microcontrollers, DSPs, FPGAs, ADCs, and digital control hardware.
  • Experience with voltage, current, and temperature sensing architecture.
  • Knowledge of ADC signal chains, analog front-end design, signal conditioning, filtering, calibration, and measurement accuracy.
  • Familiarity with mixed-signal PCB design considerations, including grounding, isolation, noise reduction, EMI, and high-voltage system interfaces.
  • Ability to read schematics, review PCB layouts, bring up new hardware, and troubleshoot board-level issues.
  • Hands-on lab experience testing and validating embedded control electronics.
  • BS in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a similar field, and at least 5 years of relevant industry experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with power converters, inverters, motor drives, battery systems, renewable energy systems, or high-voltage power electronics.
  • Experience with gate driver interfaces, fault detection, protection circuits, and isolated sensing.
  • Familiarity with CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, PWM, and other embedded communication or control interfaces.
  • Experience supporting hardware from concept through prototype, validation, and production release.
  • Basic understanding of firmware or control algorithms for power electronics systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design embedded control board hardware for power conversion systems, including converters, inverters, motor drives, and related power electronics platforms.
  • Develop control board architectures using microcontrollers, DSPs, FPGAs, ADCs, and mixed-signal circuitry.
  • Design voltage, current, and temperature sensing circuits for accurate system monitoring and control.
  • Develop signal conditioning, filtering, scaling, isolation, and protection circuitry for sensor inputs.
  • Interface analog sensing circuits with ADCs and validate measurement accuracy, resolution, timing, calibration, and noise performance.
  • Support schematic design, component selection, PCB layout review, board bring-up, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with firmware, controls, and power electronics engineers to integrate control boards with power stages, gate drivers, sensors, and communication interfaces.
  • Debug control board hardware issues related to ADC readings, sensor accuracy, grounding, EMI, isolation, timing, and protection behavior.
  • Validate control board performance in lab environments using oscilloscopes, power supplies, meters, signal generators, and other test equipment.
