What You’ll Do: ELSA is a thematic, project-based, language learning summer program. As a teacher, you will provide English Language Development instruction to elementary-aged students through an inquiry-based approach, focusing on all four domains (reading, writing, listening, and speaking). Total Hours & Schedule (Summer 2026) Pre-Program Planning & Orientation: 4 hours total (To be used for the mandatory staff meeting, program orientation, and classroom setup/prep). Program Duration: 4 Weeks ( July 6th – July 31st, 2026 ). Weekly Commitment: 20 hours per week ( 80 hours total for the 4-week session). Instructional Hours: Monday – Thursday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. Prep & Collaboration: Monday – Thursday, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Required Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in ESL (PreK-6 or 5-12)
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement required.
  • Ability to meet the expectations of the MA Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Second Language (Spanish) Proficiency a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead students in developing English proficiency through project-based and inquiry-based thematic instruction.
  • Work with other ELSA teachers to design and assess learning that incorporates critical thinking and self-assessment.
  • Monitor and support students during arrival, breakfast, lunch, recess, and dismissal.
  • Participate in field trips and off-site learning opportunities.
  • Evaluate and prepare teaching resources that reflect the diversity of the learning community.
  • Deliver pre- and post-assessments to determine student growth and use data to inform daily instruction.
  • Use daily exit tickets, formal and informal assessments to improve student instruction daily.
  • Attend ELSA planning meetings and data review sessions.
