About The Position

Salem Public Schools & Salem YMCA Summer Academy Professional Teachers [SY 2025-2026] Program Overview: Salem Public Schools, in partnership with the Salem YMCA, is seeking dedicated educators for our 5-week Summer Academy. This program provides enriching, project-based learning (PBL) for rising 1st through 5th-grade students. Location: Horace Mann Laboratory School (HMLS) Program Dates: July 6th – August 7th, 2026 (5 Weeks) Mandatory Training Days: June 24th & June 25th Teacher Positions: We are looking for elementary educators to lead the morning PBL academic block. Teachers focus on fostering collaborative problem-solving through interdisciplinary projects. Teacher Program Hours: 7:30 AM – 12:30 PM | Monday – Thursday Compensation: $45 per hour (contractual rate) Available Positions: Elementary PBL Teachers (5-8 Positions): Deliver Playful Learning Curriculum (rising 1st-2nd) or Science & Civics Curriculum (rising 3rd-5th). AVES Dual Language Teachers (2.5 Positions): Specifically support Bentley Academy Innovation School students within the PBL block to maintain dual language continuity.

Requirements

  • Current MA DESE licensure in appropriate field (Elementary, ESL, or School Adjustment Counselor).
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Passionate about urban education and experienced in working with diverse student populations.
  • Ability to build positive relationships quickly and implement age-appropriate academic or therapeutic activities.

Nice To Haves

  • at least 2 years of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete SAYO Pre-assessments (Week 1) and Post-assessments (Week 5).
  • Develop and administer a classroom-specific academic pre- and post-assessment to measure student growth.
  • Lead a group of 18–22 students using a Project-Based Learning framework.
  • Partner with paraprofessionals to manage classroom climate and social-emotional needs.
