About The Position

Fremont Public Schools is seeking an ELL Paraeducator for Washington Elementary. This position works 7.5 hours per day on student days, starting August 2026. The role involves assisting teachers in providing instruction to students whose native language is other than English, preparing students for lessons and assessments, and supporting their adjustment to U.S. schools. The paraeducator will also assist with classroom materials, student monitoring, behavior management, and clerical duties. This position requires regular, dependable attendance and the ability to perform assigned tasks and physical requirements.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or have GED
  • Strong desire to work with children in a caring manner
  • Ability to work effectively with staff and students
  • Driver’s License
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of basic reading and math skills.
  • Regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job
  • Ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the identified work activities
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the teacher in providing instruction to students whose native language is other than English.
  • Abides by the guidelines established for paraeducators of the State of Nebraska and the District.
  • Demonstrates the ability and willingness to perform and fulfill assigned duties as designated by the supervising teacher.
  • Assists the supervising teacher in the collection and preparation of instructional material and equipment.
  • Assists with the evaluation, monitoring and supervision of students’ work.
  • Assists students in performing activities initiated by the supervising teacher.
  • Implements behavior management and modification techniques as structured and monitored by the supervising teacher for individual students.
  • Assists with various classroom clerical and daily organizational duties.
  • Attends professional development meetings and workshops for paraeducators.
  • Respects the confidentiality of information about students and communicates progress or concerns about students to parents or staff only with the authorization of the supervising teacher.
  • Exhibits a positive working relationship with students and staff.
  • Follows all rules and regulations relating to school and District policies.
  • Prepare ELL students to understand and participate in the teacher’s instruction by identifying ELL students’ prior knowledge and language and by previewing lessons in the students’ native language or modified English.
  • Assist ELL students to prepare for assessments by reinforcing thinking and study skills and reviewing material learned.
  • Provide feedback to the teacher regarding ELL students’ progress and challenges in learning academic content and language and in adjusting to U.S. schools.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher and/or administrative staff.
