About The Position

Goodhue County Health & Human Services is seeking an Eligibility Worker to join its public service team. Under general supervision, the position performs tasks related to determining client eligibility for income maintenance programs, including Food Support, Medical Assistance, and cash programs. The worker interviews clients, obtains and verifies factual information, explains application procedures, determines eligibility and benefit amounts, informs clients of their rights and appeal options, and makes referrals to Social Services and other community resources when appropriate.

Requirements

High school diploma plus two years of study at a two- or four-year college, with emphasis in the Behavioral Sciences or Business; or two years of clerical experience in a County Health & Human Services Agency; or three years of clerical experience elsewhere, which may substitute for the two years of post-high-school education.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience is preferred.
Current eligibility specialists with at least 24 months of experience determining eligibility for public assistance benefits in Minnesota within the past two years, or those who left the position less than 12 months ago and have at least 24 months of public-assistance eligibility determination experience.

Responsibilities

Interview clients to obtain necessary factual information and verify information received from clients.
Explain application procedures and answer questions about completing income maintenance program application forms.
Determine eligibility for and the amount of benefits for public assistance programs, including cash, food, and medical assistance.
Inform clients of their rights, methods of appeal, and other legal rights.
Make referrals to Social Services and other community resources when appropriate.
