About The Position

This Eligibility Worker IV position is located within the Department of Human Services in the Benefit, Employment and Support Services Division (BESSD), Statewide Branch, Kauai Section. BESSD Eligibility Workers determine the initial and continuing eligibility of applicants/recipients for the financial assistance and supplemental nutrition assistance programs. The primary purpose of this position is to conduct quality assurance reviews to identify errors and/or error-prone program areas, identify, develop, or coordinate training on specific program areas, and serves as the Section's trainer.

Requirements

  • Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Possess experience demonstrating a high degree of verbal skill and the ability to read, comprehend and apply written directions and perform basic mathematical computations, including percentages and averages. This requirement may also be met by possession of a high school diploma, or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of experience which involved public contact work that required providing information, answering questions and inquiries, and explaining policies, rules, and regulations in person or by telephone; and utilizing a computer to retrieve and enter data.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience which demonstrated knowledge of philosophy, goals, functions and standards of services for public assistance programs and the ability to perform eligibility determination work.
  • At least one year of the three years of specialized experience must have provided the applicant with the knowledge and ability to apply regulations, policies and procedures of the pertinent public assistance program(s) in which the vacancy exists.
  • Demonstrate supervisory aptitude through successful completion of assignments involving supervisory responsibilities or aspects of supervision, or by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills, and/or favorable appraisals indicating supervisory potential.
