About The Position

Catawba County Social Services is seeking a highly motivated Eligibility Specialist to join our Adult Medicaid Long Term Care (LTC) team. In this advanced role, you'll determine eligibility for programs such as Medicaid for the Aged, Blind, and Disabled (ABD), Long Term Care, Special Assistance, CAP, and PACE. You'll also serve as a critical resource for applicants and families navigating care transitions and aging support needs. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Human Services, Business, or a closely related field and 2 years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; OR High school diploma or GED equivalent and 3 years of demonstrated experience with mathematical work and/or public contact involving interviewing, gathering, and compiling information, and 2 years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker.
  • 2 years of experience in income maintenance eligibility (IMC) in a Department of Social Services
  • Ability to self-initiate, with strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent people skills, patience, and willingness to work with a variety of personalities
  • Strong computer skills
  • Capacity to learn and work quickly, and a strong will to learn and succeed
  • Analytical skills to read, interpret, and apply complex rules and regulations

Nice To Haves

  • Trainees with 1 year of Medicaid IMC experience may be accepted.
  • Salary is negotiable for applicants who are fully qualified. (2 years or more of Income Maintenance experience, particularly Adult Medicaid or Long Term Care)

Responsibilities

  • Determine eligibility for the Medicaid for the Aged, Blind, and Disabled and Special Assistance programs by interviewing, researching, verifying information, and gathering data from citizens applying for assistance.
  • Primary responsibility for determining eligibility for Long Term Care, CAP, PACE, and Special Assistance
  • Interpret State and Federal guidelines and determining how they apply to each individual situation
  • Manage Data in complex computer systems
  • Explanation and enrollment in Carolina Access and proper use of electronic benefit card (EBT card)
  • Educate clients to assure they are fully aware of the change reporting requirements
  • Manage an ongoing caseload by re-determining eligibility and reacting to numerous changes under strict deadlines
  • Referral of applicants/recipients to other social services programs and community services
