About The Position

This is entry-level clerical work involving screening of customers and referring them to appropriate personnel, so that eligibility for public assistance programs can be determined. The role involves maintaining records and files and providing information on available programs. An employee in this class receives direct supervision from a higher-level officer.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year experience involving direct public contact
  • Knowledge of computer operations
  • Knowledge of social sciences
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics
  • Knowledge of filing practices
  • Skill in the use of computer
  • Ability to deal tactfully with all persons contacted during the course of work
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Ability to read and comprehend

Responsibilities

  • Screens customers and provides information on available programs; refers them to appropriate personnel, in order that eligibility for public assistance programs can be determined.
  • Maintains daily logs of customers' visits and information, so that workers can retrieve information to complete cases and for future reference.
  • Files cases, appointment documents and all pertinent information received from customers and other agencies, for future reference.
  • Makes appointments with customers, in order to open or reopen cases; enters information obtained from customers into CARIB System for future reference.
  • Attends staff meetings to keep abreast of changes in local and federal rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Performs other related work as required or assigned.
