About The Position

Coordinate assistance programs and resources, including support for families to help solve and cope with problems in their everyday lives.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • One (1) year of previous work experience providing social service programming to the community, or social work or human services experience required.
  • Strong sense of service required.
  • Ability to alleviate stress and anxiety and be supportive of people and work tactfully, collaboratively, diplomatically and with highest level of confidentiality required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to speak effectively before groups of people and respond to questions required.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Applications required.
  • Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to meet the minimum insurance requirements regarding driving record to utilize department vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Native American communities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate or assist with all general assistance programs such as ESI, LIHEAP, Supplemental Heating, CCDF, Administration for Child and Family, Burial Fund, Supplemental Heating, etc.
  • Interview applicants to collect and verify information pertinent to eligibility determination
  • Evaluate applicant’s financial status, living conditions, and other factors to determine program eligibility
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable tribal, state and federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Conduct annual reviews on pertinent programs for continued eligibility.
  • Provide information on available resources, provide social support and informal counseling, advocate for individual’s needs and assist applicants in identifying and obtaining available benefits.
  • Answer questions, research available options within the Social Services Department programs and other options available from outside agencies in the community.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate applicant case files, along with program participation spreadsheets.
  • Submit reports and review reports or problems with Director.
  • Attend meetings and events to provide information on social services programs.
  • Assist with development of programs to prevent and resolve problems relevant to Pokagon Band households.
  • Assist with grant planning.
  • Assist with commodities program food supply distribution.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.
