About The Position

This position is designed for individuals who are looking for new tasks, to advance their knowledge, and take responsibility for their safe work behavior and the safety of their coworkers. The tasks include but are not limited to: grain receiving, storage handling, drying, blending, and loading of grain; monitoring stored grain condition and maintaining and cleaning grain facilities and equipment to provide a safe environment. Grain Elevator Operators will be cross-trained to perform a variety of tasks including driving trucks and other motorized equipment. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED degree and/or equivalent training required.
  • Maintenance experience with a mechanical aptitude is required.
  • Must be computer literate with proven ability in the use of spreadsheets, database, and word processing software applications within a Windows-based operating environment.
  • Requires the ability to read and comprehend written and oral operational and safety instructions and related rules, policies, and memo, and communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Must be able to make decisions and work independently; be detail-oriented with excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Vision that permits close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • When grading grain, the ability to identify and distinguish colors is also important.
  • Ability to detect odors and the ability to understand and discern safety warning systems.
  • This is a physical job that includes both indoor and outdoor work in all types of weather and temperature environments.
  • The job may include working in and around grain dust.
  • Flexible with work hours - must be prepared to receive phone calls and respond to company-related needs at irregular times.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas in English by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to customers, public, and convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with computer programs such as Agris, and MS suite of products is preferred.
  • Proven interpersonal skills; must support a team-oriented approach within the immediate facility as well as for United Grain Corporation.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with Producers on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

  • Perform job tasks in a safe manner in compliance with UGC safety programs and procedures.
  • Take responsibility for safe work behavior.
  • Maintain work areas and facilities properly.
  • Provide courteous and responsive customer service.
  • Perform or assist in routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist in the unloading or loading of grain commodities by truck, rail and barge.
  • Weigh or measure materials and products, using scales or other measuring instruments, or read scales on conveyors that continually weigh products, in order to verify specified tonnages and prevent overloads.
  • Maintain equipment, machinery, and work stations, using hand tools, shovels, brooms, chemicals, hoses, and lubricants.
  • Observe conveyor operations and monitor lights, dials, and gauges, in order to maintain specified operating levels and to detect equipment malfunctions.
  • Observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions.
  • Inform supervisors of equipment malfunctions that need to be addressed.
