About The Position

Under general supervision, inspects passenger and freight elevators to ensure compliance with laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations governing their safety and operation. The role also performs related duties as required.

The inspector examines and tests elevators and their safety devices and components, investigates reported violations, complaints, and elevator accidents, and documents inspection findings. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, three years of full-time paid experience in elevator installation, construction, inspection, or repair, the ability to lift and carry at least 30 pounds, and a valid State of Ohio driver's license.

Requirements

• Three years of full-time paid experience in the installation, construction, inspection, or repair of elevators.
• Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds.
• Valid State of Ohio driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and test elevators, safety devices, governors, counterweights, hoisting cables, and other elevator components for compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
• Determine and record the person responsible for elevator operation at a premises.
• Investigate reported violations and complaints.
• Investigate elevator accidents.
• Maintain records of inspections, findings, and other relevant information.
• Prepare reports of inspections, findings, and other matters.
