About The Position

The division of Industrial Compliance and its associated boards ensure Ohioans are safe in public buildings such as businesses, educational institutions and municipal buildings. This includes drafting and applying the Ohio Building Code; conducting appeal hearings; issuing variances to code requirements; licensing commercial contractors; inspecting boilers, elevators and bedding; and regulating ski tramways. The division has responsibility for portions of the Manufactured Homes Program, and licenses installers and parks. The division also oversees Ohio’s minimum wage, prevailing wage and minor labor law programs. What You'll Do: Receives training to become proficient on conducting inspections of operation, installation, alteration, construction, maintenance and/or repair of elevators. Learns to conduct opening and closing conferences with adjusters of new elevator installations to explain scope of inspections, and to review inspection results and recommendations. Completes reports (e.g., monthly, expense; activity, vehicle); maintains files of records & information related to elevator inspections (e.g., annual inspection; licensing & certification; safety test; violations); reviews architectural & installation drawings; research liability codes; operates motor vehicle to travel throughout state to learn to inspect elevators. Requirements

  • 48 months training or 48 months experience in electronics or electrical maintenance; 24 months training or 24 months experience in reading blueprints/electrical drawings/wiring diagrams &/or layout drawings; all persons appointed to the classification, Elevator Inspector Trainee, 24140, must possess high school diploma or GED; ability to climb stepladders & extension ladders; valid driver’s license.
  • Or 48 months training or 48 months experience in mechanical repair of machines, motors, engines, drives &/or hydraulic systems; 24 months training or 24 months experience in reading blueprints/electrical drawings/wiring diagrams &/or layout drawings; all persons appointed to the classification, Elevator Inspector Trainee, 24140, must possess high school diploma or GED; ability to climb stepladders & extension ladders; valid driver’s license.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
