Elementary Tutor for Multilingual Learners

About The Position

The Canton Public Schools is looking for a part-time elementary tutor to work with Grades K-5 elementary students who are multilingual learners and require extra classroom support and intervention. The tutor schedule is anticipated to be 4 days/week totaling between 16-19.5 total hours per week beginning in late September through late May. Tutors will support students in the classroom setting using district provided high quality, evidence based materials. Tutors will be required to keep notes on student progress and will participate in writing brief progress reports for students on their caseload. Tutors will work collaboratively with classroom teachers, ML teachers, and the ML Coordinator. Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with multilingual learners WIDA levels and associated skills, and scaffolds that support English language learners.
  • MA Elementary Certification preferred.
  • SEI Endorsement preferred.
  • Familiarity with ML Learners.
  • Experience interpreting WIDA levels and associated skills.
  • Familiarity with the Massachusetts Math Curriculum Frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Support students in the classroom setting using district provided high quality, evidence based materials.
  • Keep notes on student progress.
  • Participate in writing brief progress reports for students on their caseload.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, ML teachers, and the ML Coordinator.
  • Provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment for all learners.
  • Create lesson plans, aligned with current state and district standards, which drive instruction through formative assessment and differentiation.
  • Provide consistent, immediate feedback on student learning and ask analytical questions that elicit students' responses that incorporate prior knowledge, life experience and interests that are directly related to the content objective.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and administration in analyzing data in order to positively impact student learning.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Deliver small group instruction.
