About The Position

St. Martha School in Okemos is seeking a full-time Elementary Teacher. At St. Martha School, we believe each student is uniquely created in the image and likeness of God and possesses gifts that are meant to be discovered, developed, and shared. We are seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and student-centered elementary teacher who is committed to fostering academic excellence while nurturing the spiritual, social, emotional, and intellectual growth of every child. The elementary teacher will create a safe, engaging, and faith-filled classroom where students are encouraged to grow in knowledge, virtue, and confidence. Through high-quality instruction, meaningful relationships, and collaboration with colleagues and families, the teacher will inspire a love of learning while supporting each student's unique needs and helping cultivate a school culture rooted in faith, kindness, service, and belonging.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Education
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate issued by the Michigan Department of Education
  • Eagerness to continuously enrich teaching expertise through engagement in professional development opportunities
  • Practicing Catholic or willingness to actively support and uphold the mission, teachings, and traditions of the Catholic Church.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission, values, and philosophy of Catholic education while fostering the faith development of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to create a positive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment with strong instructional, classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and complete the Protecting God’s Children VIRTUS program.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience teaching in a Catholic elementary classroom is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Model Catholic values and actively support the mission and philosophy of St. Martha School.
  • Integrate faith into daily instruction, classroom interactions, and school activities.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction that meets the diverse needs of learners.
  • Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom where every student feels valued, respected, and encouraged to grow.
  • Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate interventions and enrichment to support student success.
  • Assess student learning regularly and use data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and grades.
  • Establish clear classroom expectations and foster positive student behavior through consistent, respectful classroom management practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and administration to meet the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of students.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents regarding student progress, classroom activities, and school events.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.
  • Supervise students during assigned duties, including arrival, dismissal, recess, lunch, and other school activities as requested.
  • Prepare students for and participate in school liturgies, prayer services, and other faith-based celebrations.
  • Encourage students to develop virtues, demonstrate respect for others, and serve their school, parish, and community.
  • Utilize instructional technology to enhance teaching, learning, and communication.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and engaging classroom environment that supports learning.
  • Support school events, extracurricular activities, and community-building opportunities as appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters.
  • Comply with all diocesan, state, and school policies, procedures, and professional expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
