About The Position

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Requirements

  • Must hold or be eligible for a Maryland teaching certificate/license with the Elementary Education 1-6 endorsement.
  • Knowledge of subject matter and appropriate instructional methodologies.
  • Ability to effectively plan hands on and engaging lessons that are designed to students’ academic needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing using the English language when deemed necessary.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in implementing a Multi-Tiered Supports (MTSS) to address academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students through data-informed decision-making and targeted interventions.
  • Proficient in applying tiered behavioral supports, including de-escalation techniques, restorative practices, and behavior intervention planning, in alignment with Wicomico County Public Schools (WCPS) policies and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a classroom atmosphere that is welcoming, inclusive, and responsive to the individual academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of all students.
  • Foster a learning environment grounded in empathy, mutual respect, and emotional safety to support students in developing self-regulation and interpersonal skills.
  • Provide direct, differentiated instruction within a small group setting, accommodating both single-grade and multi-grade configurations as needed.
  • Track and document student academic performance, behavioral progress, and attendance through consistent grading, data collection, and record-keeping practices.
  • Maintain regular communication with students homeschool teams to share academic and behavioral updates and to align support strategies.
  • Assist in observing student behavior in the homeschool environment to identify target behaviors and support the development of individualized goals to be addressed within the alternative setting.
  • Monitor and collect data on student performance, behavior, and engagement to inform instruction and intervention planning.
  • Apply the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework to provide proactive, tiered interventions that address academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by school administration.
