About The Position

The Elementary Teacher will create and sustain a flexible primary program and a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth. This role involves establishing effective rapport with pupils, motivating them to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge, and evaluating their educational foundations in accordance with each child's ability. The position is for the 26-27 SY at Hyannis West Elementary School.

Requirements

  • Possess appropriate certification and degree(s).
  • Has a knowledge of children based on both formal learning and/or practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Understands Child Growth and Development: Relates teaching methods and materials to the growth and development of primary age children, considers their interest level and attention span, recognizes symptoms of superior and inferior pupil performance, uses appropriate vocabulary, and bases learning on physical, mental, social, and emotional traits. Displays initiative and creativity in providing learning activities.
  • Planning Evaluating Student Learning: Plans a long-range and short-range instructional program consistent with school/system curriculum, including units, time frames, and objectives. Develops one-day lesson plans for substitutes. Diagnoses learning needs, utilizes appropriate teacher-made tests, uses assessment results to modify plans, maintains cognizance of system time allotments, offers clear objective interpretations to parents and students, keeps records, administers standardized tests, and prepares progress reports.
  • Classroom Management: Organizes the physical environment for comfort, health, and safety. Establishes positive and consistent behavior standards. Conducts routine and clerical chores efficiently. Uses planning and motivation as management tools. Solicits help from parents, resource staff, and the principal. Uses the instructional program to encourage citizenship and responsibility. Manages class time efficiently.
  • Interpersonal Relationships: Demonstrates and reinforces mutual respect among students. Uses positive reinforcement and encouragement. Cooperates with fellow teachers, administrators, and staff. Listens and respects others' opinions. Communicates effectively with staff and parents. Fosters tolerance and understanding of differences.
  • Professional Responsibilities: Participates in curriculum development or review. Improves professional competence through in-service, coursework, and readings. Shares ideas, materials, and methods with colleagues. Protects pupil confidentiality. Uses prescribed district and association channels for problem-solving. Uses oral and written English correctly. Accepts and uses suggestions and criticisms. Cooperates in developing and supporting school and system policies.
  • Personal: Sets a strong example of good hygiene, manners, and self-control. Displays personal interest in students. Maintains good humor, enthusiasm, initiative, and integrity. Cooperates in developing and supporting school activities.
