About The Position

The Burlington School District is seeking a passionate and energetic Elementary School Teacher for JJ Flynn Elementary School. This position is a Long-Term Contract (LTC) role, covering from February/March through the end of the 26/27 school year. The mission is to graduate students who are culturally aware, engaged, effective communicators, creative thinkers, skilled problem-solvers, and academically successful. The Elementary Teacher will instruct students in activities promoting social, physical, and intellectual growth, designing and implementing engaging lessons that foster academic potential, character development, and social-emotional skills. The role requires adherence to state curriculum standards, accurate record-keeping of student performance, and the creation of a safe, respectful, and trusting learning environment for all students.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree or Arts or Science Required.
  • Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
  • Endorsement in Elementary Education (00) or eligible for Vermont Provisional License.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Training and/or experience with English Language Learners.
  • Experience in a professional/teaching learning community.
  • Experience in co-teaching/collaborating with other educators.
  • Evidence of student-centered learning approaches including personalizing instruction and supporting students meeting core proficiencies.
  • Evidence of implementing inclusive practices for students with special needs.
  • Ongoing educational post graduate coursework in education or subject area, including diversity, equity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans, class activities, and instructional materials.
  • Develop lesson plans and tests in accordance with established expectations.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes.
  • Assess and record learning on an ongoing basis and adjust instruction.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in EST and Special Educators meetings.
  • Participate in scheduled in-service days and staff meetings.
  • Adhere to state curriculum standards.
  • Collect and report on correct and detailed records of student performance.
  • Create and maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Create a relationship of mutual trust and respect with students from all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Strive to implement the district’s philosophy of education, goals, and instructional objectives.
  • Comply with Board and administrative policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Report incidents for the purpose of maintaining personal safety and a positive learning environment.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as appropriate and/or assigned.
