About The Position

Kokua is seeking passionate individuals to become elementary substitute teachers in Austin, TX for the 2025-26 school year. This role offers the opportunity to make a positive impact in the community, help address the teacher shortage, and provide students with positive role models. The position offers a flexible schedule, the chance to teach close to home, and a supportive community. Substitute teachers will lead classrooms, create a safe and supportive learning environment, and assist with various campus needs such as lunch/recess supervision, tutoring, and testing proctoring.

Requirements

• 1+ year(s) working with students in any setting (classroom, tutoring, coaching, camps, etc.)
• Minimum of 48 college credit hours
• Confidence to manage a classroom of students
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
• Strong belief that every child has a unique & powerful gift to share with the world
• Ability to pass state & federal background checks

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s and Master’s/Professional (MBA, JD, M. Ed, etc) degree
• Long-term assignments
• Associate’s degree

Responsibilities

• Lead classrooms and help create a safe, supportive learning environment.
• Step in where needed throughout the school day to support your campus, including lunch/recess supervision, hall and bathroom monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season.
• Positively contribute to your community and spark a love for learning with students.
• Add representation to the classroom to help kids learn from your unique experiences.
• Choose the teaching assignments and locations you’re most excited about.
