About The Position

Sonoran Science Academy Tucson is seeking a dedicated Elementary Special Education Teacher to provide Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) to students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for the 2026–2027 school year. This role requires a collaborative, student-centered educator who can deliver high-quality special education services within a least-restrictive environment while partnering closely with classroom teachers, school psychologists, and support staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education or Special Education required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with students, families, coworkers, and administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to design lesson plans that meet individual student needs and state requirements.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary school teams.
  • Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card required.

Nice To Haves

  • Special Education Certification preferred.
  • Arizona Teaching Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Providing Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) to students with IEPs in alignment with curriculum goals and state standards.
  • Establishing clear learning objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicating them to students.
  • Writing and reviewing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Review of Existing Data (RED) reports.
  • Conducting IEP meetings and Review of Existing Data meetings with students’ families.
  • Maintaining accurate and complete records in compliance with law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers, school psychologists, reading specialists, speech/hearing specialists, and administration to support integrated student development.
  • Creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to students’ maturity and interests.
  • Setting and maintaining clear standards for classroom behavior and student engagement.
