About The Position

The Elementary School Counselor will maintain guidance and counseling services for elementary students. This includes conducting individual and group sessions and activities in cooperation with faculty and parents to provide opportunities for the optimum growth and development of students. The role requires familiarity with ESchool responsibilities, including registration and scheduling, and proficiency in using Cognos (training provided).

Requirements

  • Master's degree in guidance and counseling
  • Valid Arkansas counselor's certificate
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all federal, state, and district requirements.
  • Ability to demonstrate a professional disposition when working with staff and the school community.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling individually and/or in small groups for students referred by teachers, principals, parents, and others.
  • Work with parents and school staff to meet the individual needs of students referred.
  • Make home visits as needed to counsel with parents (guardians) of students referred.
  • Work with referral sources in meeting the special needs of students referred.
  • Make anecdotal records for each student served individually for counseling purposes only.
  • Provide classroom guidance and counseling activities for students.
  • Assist teachers in conducting group guidance activities.
  • Assist teachers in interpreting and using standardized test results.
  • Inservice staff on services of the Guidance Department.
  • Participate in other school activities.
  • Adhere to Board of Education policies, Desegregation Plan, district and school guidelines and regulations.
  • Familiar with ESchool responsibilities including registration and scheduling.
  • Proficient in using Cognos (training provided by APSCN Administrator).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
