About The Position

Williamstown Independent Schools is seeking an Elementary School Counselor to provide guidance and counseling services to all students, addressing their needs, abilities, and interests. This role involves working with students individually and in groups, managing assessment programs, and collaborating with various stakeholders to support student success and well-being.

Requirements

  • Holds valid Kentucky certification for school counseling.
  • Performs as a leader such that student achievement is maximized.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels with students individually and in small groups.
  • Provides a developmental preventive guidance program.
  • Manages the assessment program and explains results to students and parents.
  • Coordinates with the Family Resource Center personnel in order to meet family needs of students.
  • Makes referrals to appropriate community agencies.
  • Consults with parents on school related concerns.
  • Consults with teachers and staff regarding students with special needs.
  • Maintains inventory of guidance materials.
  • Communicates with other counselors to coordinate guidance activities.
  • Works with staff, students and parents to maintain a healthy school environment.
  • Obtains and makes materials available on guidance related topics.
  • Maintains professional competencies through professional development and leadership training.
  • Establishes and maintains student records.
  • Works to ensure proper placement of students.
  • Aids in school scheduling.
  • Checks transcript for graduation requirements.
  • Helps college-bound students find and apply for scholarships.
  • Writes letters of recommendation.
  • Coordinates schedule changes, parent, teacher, student conferences.
  • Provides career counseling.
  • Arranges to participate in college and career days and hosts college and career recruiters.
  • Coordinates Governor’s Scholars selection.
  • Informs students of college scholarship requirements, and planning for their senior year and graduation.
  • Coordinates transition activities.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Obtains plus disseminates occupational information to students.
  • Helps students evaluate career interests and choices.
  • Performs professional responsibilities and duties including regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the Principal or Superintendent.
  • Adheres to professional Codes of Ethics adopted by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.
