About The Position

The Playground Attendant is responsible for supervising recess for elementary school children in the playground area. This role focuses on ensuring student safety and supervision while encouraging a positive atmosphere for student playground activities. The attendant will enforce school guidelines and playground policies, and maintain and store playground equipment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • CPR/FIRST AID/AED Training or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Ability to pass background checks relating to DSHS Secretary’s List of Crimes and Negative Actions. ( WAC 388-113 ).
  • Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Able to adapt to weather extremes and dress appropriately for those conditions.
  • Able to multi-task and quickly shift priorities in emergency situations.
  • Able to work collaboratively with supervisor, coworkers, students and parents.
  • Belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.
  • Is a committed Christian who is dedicated to continued spiritual growth and development as evidenced through a growing personal walk with God (e.g. daily spiritual rhythms of prayer, fellowship, Bible study, etc.).
  • Prayerfully seeks God’s will in their own lives and in their ministry at CRISTA.
  • Engages our ministry including staff and colleagues through prayer, participation in spiritual practices, leading devotionals and other spiritual practices.
  • Affirms, aligns with and supports CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC).
  • Conducts themselves in a manner which reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).

Responsibilities

  • Provide active supervision during recess to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students.
  • Enforce school expectations, playground procedures, and game rules while monitoring for potential safety hazards, including damaged equipment, unsafe play, unauthorized visitors, or objects that could cause injury.
  • Build positive relationships with students, teaching and reinforcing expected behaviors, using restorative conversations, helping students take responsibility for their actions, and guiding them in resolving conflicts respectfully and independently whenever appropriate.
  • Review and reteach game and activity rules with students as outlined by the physical education teacher.
  • Meet with the physical education teacher for instruction on prescribed games and activities.
  • Proactively reteach expectations, encourage inclusion, fair play, sportsmanship, and problem-solving skills to create a positive recess environment.
  • Prepare, maintain and store playground equipment before and after recess, reporting damaged or unsafe equipment promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisor, coworkers, students and parents to support a safe, respectful, and engaging recess experience that aligns with the school’s mission and behavioral expectations.
  • Model professionalism and Christian character by treating students with dignity, consistency, patience, and respect while fostering a positive school culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Principal and Assistant Principal.
  • Conduct that reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).
