Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in position related area
  • Iowa BOEE License Endorsement Requirement: K-8 Physical Education - 146
  • Strong instructional planning and delivery aligned to district curriculum and learning goals.
  • Ability to use assessment data to guide instruction and support student growth.
  • Effective classroom management that fosters a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to collaborate professionally and engage in continuous learning and improvement.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Designs and delivers high-quality physical education instruction aligned with state and district standards through engaging indoor and outdoor lessons.
  • Provides new, creative, and developmentally appropriate physical activities throughout the school year to motivate students to participate in lifelong fitness, sports, and healthy movement.
  • Ensures instruction is differentiated to support diverse learning styles, abilities, and needs so all students are actively engaged and successful.
  • Supervises all practical physical education activities to ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Ensures students participate at appropriate ability levels and are not exposed to unnecessary injury or illness during physical activity or school sports.
  • Promotes proper technique, sportsmanship, and physical well-being while reinforcing safe use of equipment and facilities.
  • Motivates students to explore new sports, games, and athletic pursuits while fostering confidence, teamwork, and enjoyment of physical activity.
  • Develops learning goals and class expectations in partnership with students and recognizes effort, growth, and achievement to encourage continuous improvement.
  • Evaluates individual student progress and overall class performance using observation, assessment data, and other relevant measures to gauge skill development and participation.
  • Uses assessment results to adjust instruction and activities to improve student learning, performance, and engagement.
  • Collaborates with students, parents, colleagues, administrators, and other stakeholders to build positive relationships, demonstrate leadership, and maintain high expectations for student learning and behavior.
  • Communicates effectively regarding student progress, program goals, and physical education initiatives.
  • Manages physical education learning spaces by establishing clear routines, behavioral expectations, and procedures that promote a positive, safe, and orderly environment.
  • Builds a respectful and inclusive culture that supports student participation, cooperation, and achievement.
  • Models positive behaviors and professionalism in alignment with the Iowa Teaching Standards and Code of Professional and Ethical Standards.
  • Implements current best practices and instructional resources focused on student needs and program priorities to enhance learning and program quality.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and required data related to instruction, assessments, and student participation.
  • Participates in meetings, professional development opportunities, and collaborative planning to enhance instructional practice, share information, and fulfill essential job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates consistent and reliable attendance and punctuality in alignment with district expectations, recognizing the importance of being present for students.
  • Maintains instructional continuity and strong relationships by ensuring students experience consistency, support, and stability in their learning environment.
  • Adheres to the Iowa Teaching Standards and the Iowa Ethical Standards for Educators by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct in all instructional and professional practices.
  • Upholds student confidentiality, maintains appropriate boundaries, and acts in the best interest of students, families, and the school community.
  • Engages in reflective practice and continuous improvement consistent with state expectations for effective educators.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
