About The Position

This position at Fruitport Community Schools, located at Beach Elementary School, is for an Elementary Math and Reading Interventionist. The role involves providing targeted interventions to students identified at risk of academic failure in reading or mathematics. The interventionist will deliver research-based interventions, either through pull-out sessions or within the classroom, and will coordinate closely with parents and classroom teachers regarding student progress and services. A key aspect of the role is developing schedules that integrate intervention opportunities with minimal disruption to core classroom instruction. The position also requires collaboration with special education teachers to tailor interventions for both eligible students and those undergoing pre-referral assessment. Understanding of Section 504 and special education is preferred, along with regular data review meetings with the special education teacher. Record-keeping of intervention services and certification of duties/time are also required. The position may assist with parent-involvement activities and is contingent upon the availability of adequate 31a supplemental program dollars.

Requirements

  • A valid Michigan teaching certificate for elementary education is preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate and work effectively with classroom teachers.
  • Experience in providing strategic interventions to students aligned to standards for performance at each grade level.
  • Knowledge of Section 504 and special education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides interventions for general education and special education students who are identified at risk of academic failure in reading or mathematics.
  • Provides research-based interventions in reading or math either pull-out or within the classroom.
  • Communicates and coordinates with parents and classroom teachers regarding students’ services and progress.
  • Develops daily/weekly schedules that accommodate intervention opportunities with identified students that minimize impact on their classroom core instruction.
  • Coordinates with special education teacher to tailor interventions given student eligibility and intervention needs.
  • Coordinates with special education teacher to provide pre-referral interventions for not yet eligible students.
  • Meets at least monthly with the special education teacher to review data and coordinate services.
  • Keeps record of intervention services as described above.
  • Responsible for biweekly or semi-annual certification of duties/time as prescribed by business office.
  • Assists the principal and/or Title I staff in coordinating parent-involvement activities.
