About The Position

In Ferguson-Florissant, our "New Chapter" is heavily focused on academic recovery, growth, and closing achievement gaps. We are seeking passionate, patient, and highly qualified Math Tutors to join our elementary and high school campuses on a part-time basis. Depending on your placement, you will either be the foundational guide helping elementary scholars master early arithmetic and numerical fluency, or the critical support system helping high school students navigate the complex worlds of algebra, geometry, and college readiness. Requirements

  • Must hold and maintain an active Missouri educator certification through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) corresponding to the placement level: For Elementary Placements: Active Missouri Elementary Education Certification is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, or a closely related field (required for state certification).
  • Outstanding human relations skills with a genuine sensitivity, patience, and enthusiasm for working with young learners or adolescents.
  • Highly organized individual capable of keeping basic progress-tracking records and communicating growth markers with lead classroom teachers.
  • Ability to build rapid, positive rapport with students from diverse backgrounds, fostering a classroom culture where making mistakes is celebrated as a step in learning.
  • Comfort sitting for extended periods to work eye-to-eye with students, speaking clearly, and moving around a classroom setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provides targeted, small-group and individualized math interventions to students who need extra academic support.
  • Utilizes district-approved math tools.
  • Tracks student progress data.
  • Fosters a positive, growth-oriented environment that builds students' self-esteem and math proficiency.
  • Lead small-group interventions focusing on number sense, basic operations, fractions, and mathematical word problems using physical manipulatives and visual aids.
  • Turn math lessons into playful, high-confidence learning games that reduce math anxiety for our youngest scholars.
  • Meet regularly with lead math teachers to align your tutoring sessions directly with classroom curriculum goals and specific student intervention plans.
  • Maintain brief, accurate logs of student attendance, participation, and concept mastery to help inform instructional decisions.
  • Supervise and guide student behavior during tutoring sessions using the school's positive behavioral intervention guidelines.
