About The Position

The primary responsibility of the full time Elementary Instructional Coach is to provide individualized, job embedded professional development for upper elementary teachers, focused on high quality, research-based literacy instruction. The coach will have a deep understanding of The Common Core State Standards, their shifts and the Livonia Public Schools Priority Standards. The coach will utilize effective instructional practices and assessment data to support teachers with long-range and short-term planning in meeting the literacy learning needs of all students. This position will report to the Elementary Curriculum Coordinator, and work collaboratively with the Chief Academic Officer, Academic Services Department, the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Elementary Programs, and Elementary Principals. The Elementary Instructional Coaches will remain as part of the LEA. Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,800 staff members, serving approximately 13,100 students pre-K – post secondary. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center and 1 vocational and transition center in the School District. The annual budget for Livonia Public Schools is $180 million, with a state funding of $10,000 per pupil.

Requirements

  • An elementary school teaching certificate
  • A master's degree
  • At least five years of successful teaching experience at the upper elementary level
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to build collaborative relationships with others
  • Excellent organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • A master's degree in reading, language arts or other related fields
  • Previous experience working with adult learners

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the use of formative and summative data to determine students' strengths and instructional needs
  • Collaborate with teachers to provide students with adequate and appropriate opportunities to meet high standards
  • Model lessons and debrief with teachers
  • Demonstrate lessons that reflect research-based best practices
  • Observe teacher lessons and provide actionable feedback
  • Provide professional learning during District Professional Development
  • Provide professional learning segment during District Teams
  • Collaborate with EST, Learning Specialists, Title I Teachers and Paraprofessionals
  • Provide professional learning opportunities for teachers and administrators to refine the understanding and use of research-based effective instruction, higher level thinking skills and content integration
  • Impart knowledge of reading processes, assessment, intervention and instruction
  • Remain current with research and practices related to effective literacy instruction and coaching
  • Has an understanding of the GELN Essential Practices for Coaching and 4-5 Literacy Practices
  • Collect and share data on the impact of coaching teachers
  • Other duties as assigned
