About The Position

Provide in-person, structured Elementary ELA tutoring to small groups of students at a Brooklyn NYCDOE school. The role focuses on building foundational literacy skills, improving problem-solving, and preparing students for exams through skill-based instruction. Tutors work on-site during school hours for approximately 5 hours per day, 3 days each week. Instruction uses Toolkit Tutors or school-provided curriculum. This is a W2 position paying $32–$35 per hour, with compensation described as roughly equivalent to $37–$40 per hour in a 1099 role when payroll taxes, paid sick time, and retirement match are factored in.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, completed or near completion, with strong academic performance.
• At least one year of experience teaching or tutoring in a school setting.
• Strong knowledge of Elementary ELA.
• Experience working in urban school communities and understanding of common student challenges.
• Reliability, punctuality, and commitment to student growth.
• Strong communication skills and ability to engage students.
• Ability to commute to the school site in Brooklyn.

• DOE fingerprint clearance is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide structured, engaging Elementary ELA instruction to small groups using Toolkit Tutors or school-provided curriculum.
• Review student baseline data and tailor instruction to individual needs.
• Help students develop study skills, including personal organization, problem-solving strategies, and review techniques.
• Take daily attendance and tutoring notes using a personal mobile device.
• Communicate professionally with school staff and Toolkit Tutors leadership.
