About The Position

Under the direction of the principal, the Dean of Students implements the discipline plan and activities/programs, which enable students to acquire the social and interpersonal behaviors necessary for academic achievement. They are also expected to examine and seek to improve their impact on an ongoing basis while keeping with the spirit of the school's Core Commitments.

Requirements

  • South Carolina Teacher Certificate in an applicable area of emphasis.
  • Demonstrate outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of effective and innovative behavioral intervention and student evaluation techniques
  • A commitment to academic rigor, excellent judgment, and a strong aptitude for organization, planning and execution.
  • YPA staff are also expected to exhibit professional collaboration, integrity, enthusiasm, receptiveness, and excellence in communication, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the leadership team/principal in carrying out the school’s academic and behavior programs.
  • Actively engage students, families, and staff in programs and services to support the students’ academic achievement, personal, and social development.
  • Serve as a resource for building staff, administrators, and parents in working with students, creating a positive school climate, and helping students develop a positive self-concept.
  • Consult with teachers, guidance counselors, and parents of students about specific behaviors of students; participates in parent conferences as necessary.
  • Assist in developing and coordinating behavior management programs; assist school administrators in the areas of behavior management, discipline, and classroom management.
  • Develop and implement effective individual and group discipline and behavior management plans.
  • Observe and document the behavior of individual students; maintain accurate logs of student progress.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the behavior support plan for the school.
  • Assist with the supervision and monitoring of student activities such as lunch, class changes, assemblies, concerts, dances, and sporting events.
  • Be knowledgeable of, and adhere to, all procedures and practices contained in the current employee, student and parent handbooks, and applicable state and federal laws.
