About The Position

The KIPP DC Lead Academy’s Culture Interventionist will be dedicated to student success, ensuring consistent practices, fostering a community culture of achievement, and creating a sense of belonging for students, staff, and families. This role involves supporting students in developing relationship restoration skills, both inside and outside the classroom, and collaborating with teachers to integrate these practices into classroom cultures. KIPP DC is committed to providing joyful, academically excellent education across Washington, D.C., with a network of 22 schools serving over 7,500 students. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Commitment to working with students from communities with limited access to high-quality educational opportunities.
  • At least one year of teaching experience in a PreK3–12th grade school OR an education degree that included student teaching/residency with full-classroom responsibility.
  • Teaching experience refers to serving as the teacher of record/lead instructor responsible for instruction and progress of an assigned class or section. It does not include paraprofessional work, substitute-only experience, internships without lead teaching responsibility, or daycare-only experience.

Responsibilities

  • Implement school-wide student management policies within classrooms and across campus.
  • Assist staff in implementing the school Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system.
  • Create and implement individualized or classroom-based, proactive incentive systems to support student success.
  • Develop strong relationships with all students, maintaining consistent, high, and fair expectations.
  • Communicate effectively and frequently with the leadership team, office manager, students, teachers, and families.
  • Analyze student PBIS and discipline data weekly and monthly to identify trends and intervene with specific students.
  • Follow up with teachers on student issues and collaborate with the appropriate Vice Principal to create and monitor safety/re-entry plans.
  • Adhere to all KIPP DC discipline protocols for general and special education students, including special education discipline procedures.
  • Perform clerical duties related to DeansList, student reports and records, attendance reports, etc.
  • Serve as the first responder to Deanslist referrals, including picking up students, debriefing events, taking statements, identifying consequences/restorative practices, reaching out to families, and closing out referrals.
  • Follow individual student plans in all interactions and ensure others do as well.
  • Plan and lead student small groups focused on skill development (2-3 times a week).
  • Be a visible, positive presence throughout the school and in classrooms.
  • Meet with Mental Health Professionals (MHPs) and/or Special Education Instructional Coaches to review BIPs, 504s, and Tier 2/3 plans.
  • Analyze Deanslist referral data to inform whole-school professional development and teacher support.
  • Restock the School Store and manage its operations.
  • Identify, display, and celebrate 'Llamas of the Week'.
  • Support school-wide systems related to arrival, dismissal, and attendance.
  • Model professionalism, positivity, and teamwork in all interactions.
  • Lead professional development for individuals, small groups, and the whole staff.
  • Design SWAG (Stuff We All Get) for students and staff.
  • Support whole-school assembly planning with the Specials team.
  • Lead or manage committees for large-scale events (e.g., Back to School Night, Winter Market, Black History Month, Book Fair), including calendaring, logistics, budget management, and debriefing.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and weekly planning/feedback meetings.
  • Implement coaching and feedback from school leaders, network content coaches, and lead teachers/grade-level chairs.
  • When assigned a Capital Teaching Resident, model effective instruction and provide weekly coaching.
  • Perform assigned duties during arrival, lunch, transitions, and dismissal.
  • Complete clerical tasks supporting instruction and compliance, including student records, attendance, progress reports, and documentation for IEP goals or interventions.
  • Support school events such as family-teacher conferences, open houses, field trips, and community events.
