About The Position

The Marie Philip School is seeking an Elementary Classroom Assistant to support Classroom Teachers in meeting the physical and instructional needs of students. This role involves designing and preparing instructional materials, planning and implementing functional activities, and providing direct supervision and monitoring of students in both individual and small group settings. The Classroom Assistant will work collaboratively with teachers to adapt to students' diverse needs, including medical, physical, communicative, instructional, and emotional requirements. This is a full-time, 11-month, non-exempt/hourly position located in Framingham, MA, requiring American Sign Language fluency.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • Conversational fluency in American Sign Language required, with native, or near-native ASL fluency preferred
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an educational team
  • Ability to communicate and accept and constructively use feedback and suggestions regarding job responsibilities and performance
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record when driving students or performing work-related duties

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with children preferred
  • ASL Classes may be required based on ASL fluency

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom visuals for student and instructor use.
  • Conduct instructional exercises as assigned by the teacher, working with individuals or small groups and adapting to students’ individual, medical, physical, communicative, instructional, and emotional needs.
  • Participate in student data collection, documentation, and interpretation.
  • Assume responsibility for the supervision and instruction of students in the absence of the Classroom Teacher.
  • Assist students with physical disabilities according to their physical and/or medical needs or personal needs, which may include feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene.
  • Escort and monitor students to and from the classroom and other various activities such as lunch and therapies.
  • Implement behavior management plans for individual students under the direction of the teacher.
  • May be delegated medication administration or certain medical procedure responsibilities if needed by a student under the teacher’s care.
  • May be required to drive students on field trips and/or to mainstreaming classes, with additional driving responsibilities as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Department Supervisor and/or Program Leader.
